Instructor of Spanish (2 positions)
Western Kentucky University (WKU), Department of Modern Languages, seeks applicants for two one-year Instructor of Spanish positions to begin in August 2013. Each position is a full-time instructorship teaching up to 15 hours of introductory courses per semester, with additional responsibilities for service related to lower division instruction, community outreach, and program-building. One position is on the Bowling Green Campus, and one is on the Glasgow Campus. These positions could become regular full-time dependent upon funding/needs.
Qualifications: Minimum of a Master's degree in Spanish or a related field (with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate work in Spanish); evidence of excellent teaching ability; experience with task-based, proficiency-oriented instruction aligned with ACTFL standards; a commitment to beginning and intermediate instruction; excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and native or near-native abilities in Spanish and English. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience serving a diverse student population; effective use of technology in instruction; interest or experience in developing lower level language courses for specific purposes; and study abroad or living experience in a Spanish speaking country.
The Department of Modern Languages offers majors and minors in French, German, and Spanish. Arabic and Chinese programs are in development. Beginning courses in Japanese, Russian, and Swahili are also offered. Faculty members may earn additional income teaching courses during winter and summer terms. The University provides support for professional development and mentoring of new faculty.
