Instrument & Controls Technician
Maintain and repair the Company instrumentation controls and data acquisition computer systems that directly affect the reliability and safety of the plant operations

Hourly- Non Exempt
Ensures proper adjustment and calibration of all plant instrumentation.
Maintain and update preventive maintenance program for all instrument and control devices.
Responsible for verifying setup and operation of all control devices, control system, alarms and trips.
Responsible for PLC maintenance, programming of GE Fanuc and Allen Bradley, and upgrades.
Responsible for all air emission reports to EPA and VT Agency of Natural Resources.
Responsible for calibration and maintenance of plant Continuous Emissions
Monitoring (CEM) equipment
Responsible for calibration and maintenance of plant Continuous Opacity Monitoring (COM) equipment.
Work with members of management and other staff on new project coordination and installation.
Provides graphical analysis of plant operating data and trends using computerized spreadsheet software.
Recommends controls upgrades and implements changes.
Maintain and trouble shoot plant equipment and control equipment to the highest possible standard maximizing availability and reliability with strict observance of plant safety policies and procedures.
Maintain and update maintenance records and documentation.
Capable of tuning PID control loops.
Acts as a team member with all employees of GDF SUEZ Energy staff.
Complies with all GDF SUEZ Energy policies and procedures.
Carries out other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting and maintenance functions including, but not limited to motors, MCCs, relays, breakers, electrical disconnects of rotating machinery desirable.
Must be able to read, interpret and work with
service manuals, blueprints, sketches, technical manuals, control wire diagrams and other written instructions to evaluate and maintain proper equipment operation.
Ability to use various test equipment such as, multi meter, dead weight testers, combustion analyzers, and frequency generators and counters.
Ability to install pneumatic air tubing, valve actuators, and valve positioners, perform valve maintenance.
Ability to respond to plant emergencies; carry pager or be accessible by cell phone for emergency call-ins to work anytime day or night to correct problems.
Ability to work overtime as required to maintain equipment availability.
Must have a valid driver's license
Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.
Capable of standing; walking; sitting; climbing; stooping and crouching; kneeling; reaching;
pushing; pulling; grasping; talking; lifting and hearing
Capable to climb high areas. Position requires incumbent to climb smokestack of 212 feet.
Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less with the ability to bring objects into sharp focus.
Ability to pass a respirator physical and respirator fit test.
Ability to perform first aid and CPR.
Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
Could involve some lifting and/or be able to move up to 50 pounds of weight.
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
3-5 years experience in a power plant environment.
Must possess advanced knowledge of boiler controls and pneumatic and electronic control setup and calibration.
Proficiency in standard personal computer spreadsheet software is required.
Post-secondary education from a vocational or technical school is desired.
Requires 5-10 years experience of instrumentation and controls installation, maintenance and repair experience in a power plant environment.
Experience may be considered in lieu of formal technical education.
Knowledge in computer, telephone, metering and calibration tools, hand-held tools and power equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Exposed to temperatures greater than 90 degrees Fahrenheit; equipment noise level greter than 85dbl; and hazards such as high-pressure steam lines.
50% of the work is performed indoors and 50% is performed outdoors.
