DUTIES:

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Utilities and Power Plant Operations. The incumbent is an Instrument Mechanic and performs maintenance, repairs, calibration, installation, and reading of various meters, and controls utilized in the production and control of steam and chilled water in the Capitol Power Plant.
Performs daily chemical analysis and treatment of condenser water, condensate return, boiler feeder water, soft water and city water to determine such factors as hardness, oxygen content, total solids, alkalinity, sulfites, chlorides, and phosphate in terms of parts per million. The tests are used to determine present condition of the various treated waters in order to calculate further treatment and to indicate malfunctions of the various chemical control equipment. Adjusts chemical feed levels of chilled, sulfuric acid, caustic soda, sulfite, scale inhibitor, slimicide, and other chemicals that keep plant water treatment within the recommended range of control. Troubleshoots various instruments and devices under simulated or actual operating conditionsTroubleshoots various instruments and devices under simulated or actual operating conditions .
Performs combustion testing on all operating coal, gas and oil-fired boilers for maximum performance. Maintains, calibrates, and updates building ventilation controls for heating and air conditioning.
Installs and modifies pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls and control systems for industrial type applications such as fly ash removal systems, stack emission monitoring, chemical treatment feed, and oxygen trim controls. Ensures that installed systems and controls function to meet operating needs by mounting instrumentation, installing tubing, and connecting wiring to appropriate terminators

Makes repairs to complex and interrelated components and assemblies.
