Instrumentation Technician

is primarily in charge of procurement, data acquisition system construction and testing, contractor management, field installation and maintenance of meteorological towers and instrumentation used by RES during its wind measurement campaign.


  • Prepare, assemble and test instrumentation systems.
  • Work closely with RES purchasing to ensure that contracts are issued in advance for tower installations, removal or instrument repairs and replacements.
  • Visit project sites on an as required basis in order to commission instruments and certify that the tower installations are complete and acceptable to RES.
  • Interface with the Wind Technology Group to assess the need for instrument repairs and ensure that such repairs are completed in a timely manner. Upon repair or replacement, verify the performance of the instrument(s)
  • When traveling to sites, be mindful of contractor and personal safety. Report any unsafe conditions to the Instrumentation Manager. Encourage contractor safety.
  • Design/troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems used on meteorological towers
  • Document instrumentation tests and installations using provided forms.
  • Manage contractors to maintain RES safety, procurement, and documentation standards

  • Requirements:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent analytical work
  • Should be self motivated but able to work as part of a team.
  • Skilled MSOffice and Outlook. Strong Excel skills.
  • Good knowledge of Geographic Information Systems
  • Detail oriented in all aspects of the position. Able to prioritize work.
  • Able to hike 2-3 miles with equipment (50 lbs.) to remote sites.
  • Basic electro-mechanical knowledge and ability to follow wiring diagrams
  • Should be comfortable working at height
  • ABILITY TO TRAVEL on short notice. Valid passport required
  • Employees must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess an appropriate valid driver's license, and have an acceptable driving record.
  • Good understanding of all-season remote work requirements

  • Education:

    Associates in related field + 1-2 years experience
