The Insurance Coordinator performs a variety of activities working in conjunction with Pre-Admission Testing, Managed Care, Case Management, and any Bassett Clinical and/or Finance department staff to assure compliance with health plan insurance utilization management program requirements. Obtains approval/notification for select diagnostic testing, imaging, procedures and admissions using knowledge of coding and terms of reimbursement to ensure correct reimbursement for healthcare services, which supports appropriate use of healthcare resources. The Insurance Coordinator is responsible for insurance verification, identification of financial class and documentation of accurate insurance information in the system.
Minimum Requirements:
High School degree required
Associate Degree with coursework in medical terminology or medical office administration preferred
Knowledge of managed care operations and utilization management principals is preferred
Requires knowledge of standard PC and word processing software
Three years experience in hospital/physician billing or insurance required or a Bachelors degree in a relevant field
Experience with medical coding is desired, including CPT and ICD-9 coding.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time using PC and telephone.
