VNSNY’s Business Development department builds profitable business to support the mission of VNSNY. The department achieves this objective by developing innovative programs, fostering strategic partnerships and providing extraordinary customer service and responsive intake to our customers. The Central and Regional Intake teams process referrals to the CHHA—nearly 160,000 in 2010.Our intake team consists of clinical and non-clinical staff. These professionals combine clinical expertise with business savvy and strong competencies in such areas as interpersonal, critical thinking, communication and negotiation skills. Responsibilities Responsible for building relationships, receiving referrals and reviewing patient information referred to VNSNY Home Care program to determine initial appropriateness of admission. Promotes and fosters ongoing collaborative communication with institutional and VNSNY personnel to establish coordinated home care. Facilitates the safe and timely transfer of patients from a hospital or skilled nursing facility or other Health Care site to the care of the Agency. Works under moderate supervision. Qualifications Education: Bachelors Degree in Health Care, Business or a related field or the equivalent work experience required.Experience: Minimum of two years of customer service experience in the medical field (i.e. hospital, long term care, home care setting, or medical office) required. Ability to understand medical terminology required. Experience entering data, navigating and retrieving information through a mainframe or similar computer system. Ability to adapt to change and work in a team based environment required. Ability to be persuasive, negotiate to win-win outcomes and demonstrate exceptional customer service skills required. Demonstrated capability to gain commitment, build rapport with others (patients, families, physicians, clinicians, institutions etc.) required. Strong follow up skills required, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities. Knowledge of managed care, Medicare/Medicaid and insurance authorization/billing helpful but not required. Bilingual skills may be required, as determined by operational needs.
