The Intensive English as a Second Language at Green River Community College is seeking an experienced and dynamic professional for Fall Quarter 2012. First consideration will go to applicants that turn in their materials by August 1, 2012. An instructor who is able to work effectively in a strong team environment to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of international students seeking high quality English academic preparation. The successful applicant is committed to international education and dedicated to the field of TESL in a college or university setting. The successful applicant will contribute greatly to the IESL as it carries out its mission.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching integrated grammar/reading/writing/listening/speaking 4 hours per day
Providing class syllabi and schedules for students and administration
Generating lesson plans, progress reports and other related documents within the guidelines of the IESL and its curriculum
Working collaboratively with other faculty
Assisting with quarterly placement testing
Attending scheduled faculty meetings
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of three years of teaching in an Intensive English or Academic English preparation program in a college or university setting where English is the language of instruction
Proficiency in another language
Experience teaching/living abroad and/or foreign language teaching experience
M.A., M.Ed., or M.I.T. in English as a Second Language (E.S.L.), Teaching English as a Second Language (T.E.S.L.), or Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (T.E.S.O.L.), or Masters in Second Language Acquisition (S.L.A.) or Second Language Teaching (S.L.T.) OR Master of Arts, Master of Education, Master of English, OR Master of Applied Linguistics with a teaching endorsement or certificate in E.S.L., or with a significant amount of course work (at least 20%) in E.S.L. theory, methodology, and assessment Preferred Qualifications
Two years of overseas experience in an ESL program
Curriculumn development experience in a team environment
Record of on-going professional development
Placement testing experience
Supplemental Information: Salary : The starting salary listed below includes payment for outside class preparation, evaluation, and meeting with students as needed before or after class to assist them with learning problems associated with course materials. The total amount per class is based on the degree and class units. One Academic Unit (IU) is the noncredit equivalent to 1 credit hour or 11 instructional lecture hours. ( Note: ESSB 5860 has extended the salary freeze through June 30, 2013 .) Type of Degree for IESL Classes Level Rate per Academic Unit Bachelor’s Degree 1-2 years* $581.23 Master’s Degree 1-2 years* $610.14 Doctoral Degree 1-2 years* $639.56 *First year at GRCC Each IESL quarterly-contracted instructor shall also be compensated at the rate of $25/hr for up to nine (9) hours per quarter for meetings or any other non-instructional assignments approved by the IESL Program Director.
