Western Area Power Administration - Serving the West with Federal Hydropower. We offer career opportunities in a fast-paced, dynamic electric utility industry. DUTIES:
This position is located within System Control in the Chief Operating Office of Western. Incumbent is a developmental engineer participant in Western’s rotational engineer program. The purpose of this program is to provide incumbent with a broad exposure to the functions and interrelationships of the various organizational segments associated with Western’s engineering activity. Specific work assignments are made by appropriate engineers or supervisor in accordance with the rotational assignment. This position will have an emphasis on design and coordination of substation communications and control systems necessary for power operations.

At the GS-5 – A Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering is required.

At the GS-7 level: A Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering with Superior Academic Achievement. If you are qualifying based on experience, you must have served at least one year working in a job that required specialized experience. This experience must be equivalent to at least the GS-5 level. Specialized experience includes: Experience performing engineering work at the trainee level, such as making calculations using standard formulas; preparing graphs, curves, and tables for other engineers; recording factual data in tests and observations studies; performing drafting and minor detail design; and/or searching technical reports to obtain information.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This position may require overnight travel of 1-3 days per month.

If selection is made at a lower grade, promotion up to the full performance level may be made without further competition. However, promotion(s) will depend on the performance of the incumbent and are not guaranteed.

If selected, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

If selected for this position, your appointment is contingent upon completion of OF-306, Declaration for Federal Employment, during the pre-employment process.

If selected, you will be required to complete a questionnaire and are subject to a criminal background check to determine suitability for Federal employment before appointment.
