Job Description Job Title: Communications InternDepartment: Marketing and CommunicationsReports to: Communications Manager, (May - mid August)FLSA Status: Non - ExemptSalary Classification: Full-time - $10.00/hourThe following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified. Summary & Scope: The communications intern will work with the Marketing and Communications department to write and revise content for United Way's communications, with a concentration on the soon-to-be relaunched uwci.org website. This is an exciting position that will allow the qualified candidate to expand his/her knowledge of writing for the nonprofit sector and the field of digital communications.

DUTIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Write engaging content for digital communications, including website, blog and enewsletters, that is reader-centric and increases awareness of the United Way brand Edit/revise existing Web content utilizing key words for search engine optimization (SEO) to reflect United Way messaging and new website design Research and develop new ideas for Web content Work closely with internal staff to develop, write and revise copy for various United Way programs and initiatives Support the communications manager and digital marketing manager in content review, posting updates, etc. Other duties may be assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications: Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills, specifically in the areas of digital communications (Web, email, blog) Ability to be versatile in writing style: feature writing, technical writing, blogging, promotional copy, etc. Excellent verbal and presentation skills Quick learner who can multitask and complete projects under tight deadlines Strong understanding of the current digital environment and the way people interact with it Outstanding attention to detail and project management skills Experience using keywords and search engine optimization (SEO) preferred Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) Experience working with a Content Management System (CMS) preferred &12288;Education and/or Experience: Undergraduate student studying communications, journalism, English, marketing or equivalent. Candidates will be enthusiastic with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
