Summer 2013 Internship

Program Requirements

Must be seeking a four-year degree or Master’s degree at an accredited college/university
Must have completed at least one year at a college/university at time of application
Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at time of application
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to multi-task and adapt to changes in a fast-paced work environment
Must have a professional demeanor
Must have a strong attention to detail
Must be able to work outdoors
Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time
Must be available to work varying shifts or hours; i.e. be able to work opening and closing shifts, holidays, weekends as needed
Must have at least 5 days of open availability, including one weekend day
Must attend 4 Professional Development Classes
Must attend 2 Expert Seminars
Must attend 2 Behind-the-Scenes Tours
Must complete project assigned by Department or Student Programs team
Requirements and Competencies

Must have a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain a company driver’s license
Must be able to operate hand tools and power machinery, equipment and various vehicles
Must be able to bend, kneel and climb repetitively
Must be able to lift, push and pull 50 pounds
Primary Responsibilities

Perform diverse horticultural, grounds keeping and greenhouse tasks including but not limited to watering, weeding, planting, transplanting, pruning, mulching, and mowing
Perform construction and installation tasks including but not limited to retention walls, pavement, and irrigation installation
Responsible for equipment operation (with training) including but not limited to mowers, augers, trimmers, shears, tillers, utility carts, water tanks, tractors, forklift, etc.
Responsible for truck and trailer operation
Perform tasks related to cold-weather protection as well as preparation for storms, as well as repair work from any weather damage or other damage
Perform cleaning tasks so as to maintain a safe, clean professional workplace
Perform other miscellaneous duties as required

Pay Rate: Starts at $9.25/hr. and increases based on credit hours earned as of Fall 2012 semester
