Role Summary

Investment Operations is comprised of the Account Setup, Physicals, Derivatives, and Account Reconciliation functions that support over USD 1 trillion of principal traded across all asset classes on an annual basis. Investment Operations supports the Russell Investment Division, specifically Russell's multi-manager, multi-asset, implementation services, and direct investment business lines. The intern will augment investment operations staff for equity, fixed income, derivatives (both cleared and OTC) foreign exchange trading, account recon, and account system onboarding and systems maintenance. In this capacity, the individual will help with ensuring that proper and prudent risk control measures, policies, and procedures are developed, documented and implemented to effectively manage business risk, maximize organizational efficiency, and maximize straight through processing.

The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
  • Define, document, test and implement adequate and appropriate procedures and controls for all business support processes. This includes developing and implementing a workflow methodology adaptable for multiple business units
  • Evaluate and improve existing operational processes and procedures to reduce risk and increase efficiency
  • Reconcile portfolio holdings between custodian banks, internal trading systems and 3rd party vendors
  • Daily interaction with and use of the firm's proprietary systems and databases as well as external systems including Advent APX, Bloomberg and Charles River

The successful candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
  • Working towards completion of a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or business administration
  • Must be analytical, detail-oriented and precise with numbers
  • Individual contributor and strong team player in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple assignments under short deadlines
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency with Excel and comfort with database applications. Knowledge of SQL and VBA code a plus but not required
  • Ability to identify potential issues and promote efficient resolution. Set and pursue goals and demonstrate a commitment to organizational success
