Position Overview
iMentor seeks a Graphic Design Intern to support the development of compelling print collateral and web content about iMentor’s work, students, volunteers, and results to share with external audiences. Reporting to the Managing Director of Communications, the Graphic Design Intern will have the opportunity to build a unique portfolio as we work on projects including newsletters, one pagers, document templates, web graphics, multimedia features, and other creative means of communicating our mission and results.
All interns at iMentor have access to professional development trainings, opportunities to learn about all aspects of the organization, and to interface with senior staff. They will join a high energy and hard working iMentor staff team, passionate about helping more low-income, first-generation college students graduate high school college-ready and succeed in college.
Responsibilities
The Intern’s main responsibilities include:
Assist in the development of print collateral and web graphics
Create and maintain document templates for organizational use
Research trends and best practices for visual communications in nonprofit field
Other project-related responsibilities as they arise
Qualifications
College students or recent graduates working toward a career in graphic design or visual communications.
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs, particularly InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
Clear self-starter with an ability to work on multiple projects with strong attention to detail.
Intuitive research abilities and familiarity with a variety of web-based research tools and resources
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams
Able to work independently yet know when to ask for help
Resourceful, with an eye for identifying inefficiencies and streamlining processes
Must be responsible, trustworthy, and detail oriented
Ability to implement feedback to strengthen work
Interest in learning and developing professionally
Prior office experience and customer service experience preferred
About iMentor
iMentor leverages the power of mentoring to help youth in low-income communities graduate high school college-ready and succeed in college. Students and mentors work one-on-one through iMentor’s online and in-person curriculum to build the non-academic competencies that further college success. In New York City, iMentor partners with public schools to ensure every student in the school receives a mentor. Since 1999, iMentor has connected 7,000 students in New York City with mentors, and will match 1,800 mentor-mentee pairs this year. iMentor also provides its curriculum, technology, and best practices to more than 30 nonprofits in 20 states to help them run effective mentoring programs in the iMentor model. iMentor has been recognized through funding by leading institutions such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Lumina Foundation, New Profit, and the Robin Hood Foundation, and is a subgrantee of the federal Social Innovation Fund.
