The Internal Auditor III works under the supervision of the Internal Audit Manager or Director of Internal Audit and assists with planning, executing and reporting financial, operational and compliance related audits/projects to facilitate compliance with Seneca Gaming Corporation’s (SGC’s) corporate standards, policies and procedures, applicable federal laws, applicable SNI laws/ordinances, the SNI Compact with NYS (Compact), SGA approved tribal minimum internal control standards (TICS), National Indian Gaming Commission guidelines for minimum internal control standards (NIGC MICS), generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS) , internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR), and AICPA and Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards. The Internal Auditor III also conducts operational reviews and recommends policy, procedural and operational changes to improve departmental efficiencies. The Internal Auditor III is expected to fully demonstrate generalized knowledge of the gaming industry and business operations and to pursue specialized functional area expertise in one or more areas. Work assignments are completed with minimal supervision from the Internal Audit Manager or Director. Work is moderate to high in scope and complexity. Knowledge is applied to independently resolve routine and non-routine issues and to provide project guidance and informal coaching to Internal Auditors as needed. All duties are to be performed within the guidelines of the Seneca Gaming Corporation’s policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives.

Position Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older upon employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience (internal audit or public accounting); preferably in the gaming, hospitality, entertainment and/or retail industries.
  • Experience with testing and assessment of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Ability and willingness to obtain professional certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor certifications required.
  • Demonstrated competency in Excel, Power Point, Word, Visio and other software packages.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience working for a large national or regional public accounting firm preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with Title 31 regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of the SNI Compact with NYS and the Seneca Gaming Authority approved tribal internal controls (TICS), and NIGC MICS preferred.

  • Ability to write reports and routine correspondence in a clear concise manner and to speak effectively to the public, employees and customers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the customers and employees.
  • Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
  • Must be able to critically think through issues and determine the best course of action, considering impacts internally and externally.

When on the casino floor, the noise levels increase to loud. Must be able to work in an environment where smoking is permitted.

  • Must be able to effectively understand and communicate to candidates and employees.
