Centre College International Student Advisor (Center for Global Citizenship) Danville, Kentucky

This job reports to the Director of Center for Global Citizenship .

Relocation is not provided and travel is required occasionally.

This is a Full-Time position , working 1st Shift,Some evenings and weekends required. .

Overview
Responsible for providing overall support to the College’s international students. These services include oversight of visa programs, planning and coordinating orientation events, advising students, advising the International Student Association, and coordinating local family partnership. The position also provides an opportunity for creative thinking, self-direction, and campus involvement.

Job Skills/Requirements
Essential Job Functions:

Primary contact for international students prior to U.S. arrival and while on campus, which will include overseeing airport pick-up for arriving international students and arranging transportation to airport and local stores and offices such as the Social Security office;

Advise international students about U.S. government regulations, specifically visa programs and Optional Practical Training (OPT);

Register students for CPT, OP
Essential Job Functions:

Primary contact for international students prior to U.S. arrival and while on campus, which will include overseeing airport pick-up for arriving international students and arranging transportation to airport and local stores and offices such as the Social Security office;

Advise international students about U.S. government regulations, specifically visa programs and Optional Practical Training (OPT);

Register students for CPT, OPT, or OPT STEM extensions;

Issue and send I-20s to first-year students each summer;

Update all international student SEVIS accounts at the beginning and end of each term and upon graduation;

Keep abreast of changes in visa regulations;

Advise international students about issues related to cultural adjustment, academic and English language difficulties, financial concerns and general orientation to life in the U.S., Kentucky, and Danville community;

Serve as the advisor to the International Student Association (ISA);

Coordinate the local family host program; acting as a liaison for the College, international students, and local families;

Provide academic support for international students; acting as a liaison for English as a Second Language (ESL) professional, academic advising, and resource for faculty;

Plan and host social, cultural, and educational activities for international students;

Offers informal personal advising to international students. Inform international students of campus, community, and other important information;

Work closely with College community, including Admissions, Deans Office, and Student Life, to ensure appropriate international student support;

Counsel students as needed throughout the year (working closely with Mary Gulley when students have academic issues.);

Develop and maintain a comprehensive website for the international students, and generally, the campus community with important government, local, and campus resources;

Assist with the Center for Global Citizenship special projects, events, and programs;

Participate in the organization and coordination of International Student Orientation;

Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements
- Bachelors Degree
