Vera runs an annual summer internship program for undergraduate, graduate, and law school students. Interns typically work full time in one of Vera ’s departments, centers or programs; some part-time positions may be available. In addition to working on individual assignments, all interns participate in events organized by the internship coordinator. For example, last summer interns took field trips to criminal justice agencies/institutions, lunched with executive-level management, and visited Vera demonstration projects. |

Pipeline Crisis Initiative/Winning Strategies for Young Black Men (www.pipelinecrisis.org) is a project fiscally sponsored by the Vera Institute of Justice. Vera ’s Legal Department provides comprehensive legal advice and administrative assistance to the project ’s managers.
The Legal Department is seeking an intellectually agile and hard-working law student with a discerning judgment and strong interest in nonprofit organizations and operations. In addition to interest in the substantive areas in which Vera works (e.g., criminal justice, juvenile justice, immigration), knowledge and interest in the obstacles to the social and economic success of Black men and boys is a plus.
Responsibilities: The intern will work during the summer of 2013 with the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel. Tasks may include legal research and writing, policy review and assistance with human resources, and helping to provide strategic advice and counsel to all facets of the organization. The intern may participate in Legal Department and Institute-wide meetings, as well as meetings about many Vera projects.
Qualifications: Candidates must be law students who are creative thinkers and are able to work independently and to simultaneously manage several tasks.
