This position is for an Interpretation and Modeling Researcher/Developer that will execute the entire life-cycle of Geological and Geophysical applications including analysis, design, development, deployment and support. The successful candidate will enjoy an opportunity to enhance the workflow capabilities of Chevron's Next Generation Seismic Interpretation and Earth Modeling systems, including Gocad, Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS), and Petrel. Candidate should have a working knowledge of Geological and Geophysical processes such as seismic interpretation, structural modeling, sub-surface mapping, 3D visualization, framework modeling, and/or reservoir characterization.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
Conduct independent research and problem-solving for topics associated with 3D Seismic Interpretation, Volume Visualization, and Framework modeling.
Interact with Interpreting and Modeling Earth Scientists to develop and implement effective technical solutions to business problems in exploration and production.
Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in an Earth Science related discipline.
Familiarity with advanced interpretation and visulization workflows including seismic attributes, pre-stack interpretations, model-based interpretation, volumetric uncertainty, pattern recognition, well-path planning, geo-body detection, seismic inversions, etc.
Expereince with using Software Developer's Kits (SDK's) to build customized extensions to vendor systems like Gocad, EPOS, and/or Petrel.
Experience with commercial software delivery including all phases of development, deployment, and end-user support. Strong background and experience in technical software design and development for both MS Windows and Linux operating systems.
Familiarity with and routine observance of software engineering methods including object-oriented design and analysis; source-code revision control; software quality assurance including unit, component, and regression testing; design reviews, code walthroughs, coding standards; bug-tracking and problem resolution.
Experience with using the C, C++, C#, .NET and Java programming languages.
Familiarity with complex math/physics algorithm development and advanced sofware engineering concepts such as design patterns, multi-threading and parallelization, inter-process communication, and Central Processing Unit (CPU) fine-tuning.
Experience with working in collaborative teams that may include researchers, developers, technical support staff, and testers.
Ability to work directly with major software vendors to report requirements and steer development of software development kits that will enable expanding proprietary development.
Experience working directly with end-user base to refine software usability and reduce ergonomic risks.
Strong project management skills that facilitate planning and execution of short- and long-term development projects.
Familiarity with sound software engineering practices.
Ability to work in a team environment and interact with a technical user base.
