The Interpreter facilitates communication between persons who are deaf/hard of hearing and the Department and University faculty, staff, students, employers, doctors, etc., may support other campus related activities which may include mentoring and working with other agencies as needed and appropriate. Interpreters may work with the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation staff, employers, doctors, post-secondary instructors, etc., related to the individual's rehabilitation services.
Minimum Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

- Interpreters must be licensed in the state of Kentucky and certified by a national organization to work in Kentucky. - Must meet requirements of Kentucky Interpreter Licensure Law KRS 309.300-309.319 - Must hold a valid Kentucky driver's license.
Associated degree or completion of a minimum of 60 hours of college coursework is required.
Minimum Experience Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years' work experience in a related profession is required. - Strong bilingual skills in ASL and English - Requires routine skills requiring some previous demonstrated experience and/or appropriate vocational qualifications.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Special Instructions to Applicants
- Bachelor's degree is preferred. - Ability to gather organize, and analyze data in the completion of general functional procedures is highly desired.
