Investigators require strong analytical skills to effectively conduct surveillance and investigations of trading practices and apply those skills to correlate complex financial audit trail and market data, as well as audio, video and documentary evidence, to assess compliance with Exchange rules in both the electronic and open outcry markets. Investigators must be facile in the use of technology and effectively employ proprietary systems to aid in the detection and investigation of potential trade practice abuses. Investigators must have strong verbal and written communication skills and will conduct taped interviews of subjects and witnesses in connection with their cases, as well as prepare written reports that are reviewed by management staff and, in situations involving material rule violations, present to Exchange disciplinary committees. Investigators will work closely with more experienced investigators and are expected to develop the capacity to conduct high quality investigations of straightforward matters and effective surveillance of trading practices with minimal supervision. Investigators will simultaneously manage multiple cases, which requires strong organizational and planning skills and a high degree of initiative to ensure timely completion of investigations. Investigators will develop a sound understanding of market fundamentals, trading practices, investigative and surveillance techniques, and Exchange trade practice rules.
