Job Opening: Itinerant Special Education Teacher: Roosevelt Elementary and IXL Elementary
Due to the influx of students with disabilities at Roosevelt and IXL, this Interrelated position has been created. The itinerant special education teacher will work in conjunction with the special education teachers at both buildings. It is anticipated that the first contract day will be January 6, 2014. The starting date may be altered, however, should a qualified applicant be hired and able to start at an earlier date.
The itinerant special education teacher will work with students with mild disabilities who take their classes in the regular classroom. Areas of support include, but are not limited to pre-teaching vocabulary for core curriculum classes, teaching students strategies in how to take tests successfully, providing support in the regular classroom itself during instruction, teaching reading, writing, spelling, and/or math in the Resource Room. Teaching duties will be determined by each student’s IEP. There are multiple requirements for special education paperwork that come with any special education teaching position. The cooperative has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) Coordinator who will assist/train all teachers in this process. In addition, beginning teachers will have an opportunity to participate in Orton-Gillingham training. OG is a multi-sensory approach to helping students to learn to read, write, and spell. OG training is for two weeks every summer for three summers.
