The University of Colorado Denver ( UCD ) seeks to appoint a Full or Associate Professor of international acclaim to hold the position of J.P. Morgan Endowed Chair in Commodity Finance, Economics and Policy in the Business School at the Downtown Denver Campus.

Posting Description

The Endowed Chair will provide academic program and research leadership at the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities, which is funded by J.P. Morgan at the Business School, to include the following objectives:

(i)Attract and educate top-quality students on commodities markets

(ii)Conduct research and publish results to enhance the understanding of commodities in academia, industry, policy, media and the general public

(iii)Develop innovative programs for professionals and students

To successfully accomplish these objectives, the Chair will have administrative support from the Center and be able to direct significant private donor funds toward award of professorships, research funding, and student scholarships.

Tenured Associate Professors with outstanding research accomplishments (multiple ‘A’ level academic publications) and demonstrated leadership potential are encouraged to apply.

The University of Colorado Denver, an urban campus located in the heart of the city’s commercial, cultural and recreational districts, is one of the top urban research universities. The Business School has 70 full-time faculty and offers the largest graduate business program in the Rocky Mountain region with about 1,000 MBA and MS students, plus 1,400 undergraduate business students. The Business School recently received substantial gifts for its Risk Management and Insurance ( RMI ) program and for its new JP Morgan Center for Commodities. The Business School has a new, state of the art building in which the JP Morgan-funded Finance and Commodities lab resides. In the commodities space, it also has a successful, energy industry-partnered Master of Science program in Global Energy Management.

The Business School offers several innovative programs including bioscience entrepreneurship, sports and entertainment management and sustainability. Online, accelerated 11-month, executive MBA programs, Jake Jabs Center for Entrepreneurship, and an MBA Health Program offer additional opportunity for students. The Finance and Risk Management Program at the Business School offers several graduate and undergraduate degree programs and certificates.

Job Responsibilities: In addition to meeting the academic expectations of a Full Professor, the Chair will lead the first ever academic program focused on commodities. The Chair will articulate a research vision for commodities, and will shape, coordinate and direct, engaging, as necessary, with other disciplines of the business school and/or other schools and colleges of the university, as well as collaborations with other universities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Economics, Finance, Financial Economics or other commodities related fields.
  • Established record of outstanding research, through publications in 'A’ level academic journals. Publication as well as in highly regarded practitioner journals are also favorably regarded.
  • Experience teaching commodity related courses in economics, finance, or other commodity related fields.
  • Evidence of broad interest in commodities.
