The person in this position will support the further development of the JPC as a regional policy coordinating body in the San Francisco Bay Area. The JPC Policy Advisor will support the JPC in reviewing and commenting on major interim work products and final draft comments prior to action by the JPC member agencies and ensuring that the JPC receives the information and analyses, necessary to implement its responsibilities.

The JPC Policy Advisor will report directly to the chair and the Executive Committee of the JPC. The Policy Advisor will work closely with the four Executive Directors of the JPC regional agencies both to accomplish JPC goals and to ensure that individual agency decisions that may affect one or more of the JPC member agencies are vetted prior to announcement and implementation. Day-to-day management will be provided by MTC.

In practice, the JPC is designed to coordinate the Bay Area's regional planning, policy, and regulatory efforts to ensure that the four (4) regional agencies; Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC), and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) act in concert on issues that cut across jurisdictional and or policy bounds while respecting the policymaking autonomy of each. This position is a Project Specific Assignment.
