Life is complicated enough without over-engineering things – our design philosophy is that simpler is usually better. Anything that needs to be done more than twice should probably be automated, and proper planning and testing mean less stress and fewer errors in times of pressing need.

Care and feeding of several-hundred-node Production server environment

Proactive monitoring of systems and service architecture Design and implementation of deployment, configuration management, backup, and disaster recovery systems and procedures

Custom tools development for application management

Documentation of systems processes and procedures

Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24 x 7 production support

Analyze failures, identify root causes, recommend course of actions

Able to multi-task and work simultaneously on project at various stages of completion and levels complexity

Learn vitalization and cloud technology (VMware, AWS …), build out self-provisioning infrastructure to enhance rapid development and testing culture.

Linux Skills (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu) Scripting experience with any of the following: perl, python, ruby, shell

Compulsion to write things down and tell others what you did

Strong understanding of IP networking Proficiency with any of the following: git, svn, CVS, perforce

Experience and/or understanding of HA / fault-tolerance / disaster recovery

Up-to-date knowledge of x86 server and storage platforms

Demonstrated ability to get things done

Bonus Qualifications (nice to have):
Experience with cfengine, puppet, capistrano, or similar automation tools Experience with hadoop / HDFS cluster administration

This is an on-site, full time salaried position located in the financial district of San Francisco, (one block from Bart station). Compensation depends on prior experience.
