Junior Designer

Job Summary
The Junior Designer conceptualizes and designs Hobsons print publications, web sites, collateral material, and client projects, from concept to completion. The Junior Designer also produces visual solutions to the communication needs of clients, using a mix of creative skills and commercial awareness. She/he will utilize imaginative flair, awareness of current trends in the visual arts, and an understanding of material costs and time limits, all of which can impact the design.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Think creatively to produce new ideas
Develop design briefs by gathering information and data to clarify design issues
Use innovation to redefine a design brief and meet the constraints of cost, time, and the client
Contribute ideas and design artwork to the overall brief
Use a wide range of media, including photography and illustration
Interpret the client's business needs
Assist in assuring timely deliverables on all assignments
Utilize Salesforce to manage workload and to provide workload status
Manage multiple priorities while producing and delivering high quality results
Identify gaps in the production processes and recommend solutions
Meet with Implementation Specialist and/or the client to discuss the business requirements and needs
Keep abreast of developments in IT, particularly design programs
Work well in a team, with Editor, Copy Editor, other Designers, Implementation Specialists, and printers
Work with tight deadlines

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design
2 years design experience working with print and web media
Knowledge of the higher education market a plus

Programming skills a plus
Experience with InCopy a plus
Flash a plus
Mac platform
