Standard Summary
Utilizing broad knowledge of graphic art equipment, tools, and techniques, designs or creates graphic artwork for various publications and/or advertising materials. Uses own original and creative thinking to develop concepts and finished materials from rough ideas or customer's needs. Prepares final layouts for printer. Draws and prints charts, graphs, illustrations, and other artwork, by hand or using a computer. Assists in coordination of all graphic production scheduling. Coordinates production support with outside vendors, as needed. Ensures that graphic projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the user's satisfaction.

The Center for Elementary Mathematics and Science Education (CEMSE) is a research and development center for Mathematics curriculum and teacher development for teachers of mathematics in grades PreK-6.
Unit Job Summary
Junior Graphic Design Specialist: Produces illustrations, diagrams, graphs, technical art, and photographs in electronic format for use in elementary school mathematics curriculum produced at CEMSE, from specifications supplied by the CEMSE curriculum writing staff. Participates in design of layouts for print and digital publications and in organization and safekeeping of print and digital materials. Communicates with the Senior Graphics Design Specialist and CEMSE curriculum writing staff about details of production of said illustrations, diagrams, and graphs and makes revisions according to their requirements.
Education
Associate's degree in graphic design, art or related field required.
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, art or a related field preferred.
Experience
A minimum of one year of graphic design or other related experience required.
Experience producing illustrations, technical art, and diagrams in electronic format for publication required.
Competencies
Experience in working with Adobe Illustrator required.
Basic competency with a bitmap or "paint" program such as Adobe Photoshop required.
Ability to work from written and oral instructions in English required.
Ability to work effectively with supervision and as part of a team required.
Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines required.
Attention to detail required.
Knowledge of graphic design software required.
Knowledge of elementary mathematics required.
