Assists with managing and supervising the daily administrative operations of the Kula Hawai`i, working closely with the Po`o Kumu (Principal), other alaka`i (leaders), Kumu (faculty) and staff to ensure a safe and productive Kula Hawai`i environment. Observes Kumu in the classroom and provides feedback to improve classroom instruction. Supervises and evaluates staff as assigned. Attends various haumâna (student) and staff functions.
Directs the daily administrative operations of the Kula Hawai`i by supervising and evaluating staff responsible for the learning center; medical services, student activities and student records; and monitoring student achievement and academic performance. May supervise additional staff as assigned by the Po`o Kumu. Assists the Po'o Kumu in directing a variety of Kula Hawai`i educational programs and activities as well as long-range planning and budgeting. Chairs or serves on various standing and ad hoc committees on campus or within the Kamehameha Schools (KS) system as needed to provide input and direction for division or Kula Hawai`i as a whole.
Supervises and monitors haumâna behavior and manages haumâna discipline for appropriate resolution including conducting parent conferences with appropriate staff, parents, and haumâna. Recommends disciplinary action to Po’o Kumu as necessary. Coordinates staff supervision assignments to monitor haumâna population during recesses and passing as well as before and after school. Directs logistics for health and safety drills, regular and emergency maintenance of physical facilities and taking other necessary measures to ensure a safe and nurturing Kula Hawai`i environment.
Plans and develops the master calendar by working collaboratively with appropriate staff to determine activities, special events, class days, and professional development. Oversees the planning of master scheduling which includes class offerings, teaching assignments and class loads.
Oversees haumâna achievement and academic performance by working with Kumu and counselors to improve haumâna academic performance.
Observes classroom kumu and provides feedback to kumu and input to Po’o Kumu regarding quality of instruction. Recommends changes to improve instructional quality of individual Kumu. Works with curriculum coordinator to ensure appropriate instruction for age level to meet achievement standards.
Coordinates the Kula Hawai`i summer program.. Coordinates the development of the curriculum and programming for the Kula Hawai`i level. Hires summer faculty and support staff to manage daily operations. Oversees the admissions/enrollment process,..

Position Requirements
2 years of directly related responsibilities. At least 5 years of previous teaching experience.
Strong leadership skills and experience in education, working with kumu and administrators; knowledge of current best practices in education and learning, supervision, team development. Ability to work with, and encourage others to excel in their work.
Strong management and organizational skills – ability to manage multiple functions and priorities in an efficient manner; ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and focus to complete projects. Ability to maintain composure, tact, sensitivity and flexibility during peak periods and crisis intervention situations.
Effective interpersonal skills to establish successful relationships with haumâna, parents, faculty and staff, and community resources and partners.
Effective oral and written communication skills to include conference and conflict resolution skills; ability to communicate clearly with a wide audience within the haumâna, parent, community and Kula Hawai`i populations.
Analytical skills to review and analyze activities and initiatives such as: cost-benefit analysis, budget projections, academic achievements, etc. Familiarity with basic statistical analysis.
Knowledge of adolescent development and behaviors.
Team player – works well with others to achieve results; demonstrate respect and tolerance for the ideas of others; ability to incorporate the thinking of individuals in group to reach group consensus.
High level of integrity to handle the highly confidential information regularly seen and discussed.
Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding and experience in Kula Hawai`i administration, including previous supervisory experience.
Recent teaching experience.
Knowledge of current trends in curriculum and assessment, haumâna assessment, learning theories and other issues at the forefront of education.
Strong computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet applications; familiarity with SASI, or other student records system.
Knowledge of KS mission, strategic plan, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of and sensitivity to Hawaiian culture and Christian values.
