General Overview

Faulkner Hospital is a 150 bed non-profit, community teaching hospital located in Jamaica Plain, just 3.4 miles from the Longwood medical area, and across the street from the Arnold Arboretum. Founded in 1900, Faulkner Hospital has a long history of meeting the health care needs of the residents of southwest Boston and surrounding suburbs. We offer comprehensive medical, surgical and psychiatric care as well as complete emergency, ambulatory and diagnostic services. Our largest inpatient services are internal medicine, cardiology, psychiatry, pulmonary, orthopedics, gastroenterology and general/GI surgery. In FY 2011, Faulkner Hospital had over 7,595 discharges and provided ambulatory support services for over 195,131 patient visits.


The Technical Supervisor is responsible for the technical aspects ( Installation, Maintaining, Training) of the Clinical Chemistry Equipment in the Core Laboratory. Preferred candidate has a Masters Degree in allied Health and an ASCP certificate or equivalent.

Directs and supervises personnel, evaluates work performance, initiates personnel actions, provides counsel and guidance, provides in-services and encourages professional growth of staff. Interviews and selects candidates for hire with the approval of the Laboratory Manager. Establishes orientation goals and schedules for new employees. Determines staffing requirements. Establishes standards of performance for training and competency of staff.

Prepares and recommends annual operating and capital budgets under the direction of the Laboratory Manager. Recommends new and enhanced technologies. Develops and maintains appropriate inventory control. Develops and implements QA/QI plans to meet CAP, TJC and accrediting agency standards.

Maintains appropriate record keeping systems for each area of responsibility. Serves as a liaison between areas of responsibility and other hospital departments to maintain cooperative and efficient patient care.

Maintains an effective working relationship with lab manager and chief pathologist. Meets regularly with lab manager to ensure consistent communication.

As needed, serves on hospital wide committees.

Reviews department manuals annually and updates as needed.

Performs duties as a technologist as needed.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in a Science required.
  • Masters Degree in Specialty preferred
  • MT (ASCP) S or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be CLIA eligible for High Complexity Testing
  • 5 years in a hospital Laboratory preferred.
  • 3 years in a hospital Laboratory in a Leadership position preferred.
