Microbiology Laboratory -- Reports to the Laboratory Supervisor and/or Assistant Administrator and functions as the principle technical authority in a laboratory section performing non-routine and/or specialized tests and analyses which require the regular application of problem solving, and/or investigative skills due to their unusually difficult and complex nature. Duties may vary by area assigned but the following are characteristic of this classification. Weekend and holiday rotations required.

Education: A Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology and/or equivalent education and training in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology. Graduate level course work in the specialized field of responsibility, preferred.

Work experience: Work requires 1-2 years experience in the given specialty area in order to acquire the necessary familiarity with clinical laboratory policies and procedures in field of specialty.

Licensure/Certification: Requires certification in Medical Technology, MT (ASCP) (preferred), or nationally recognized professional organization, ISCLT, NRM, etc.
