Job Summary

Job Purpose: The staffer in this position is responsible for providing lactation management services to expectant and new parents. These functions are performed in accordance with the hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
Supports the mission, vision, values and strategic goals of Methodist Health System.

Children D: 12+ years - 18 years

Education

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Licenses and/or Certifications (Required and Preferred)

Currently certified as Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) preferred
Licensed in Texas as a Registered Nurse

Related Work Experience and Other Skills

Demonstrated ability to lead, organize, manage and develop lactation programs
Work Experience: 2 years experience in lactation consulting required

Assist with breast pump usage; Delivers lactation management services to all breastfeeding patients, both in-patient and out-patient; Conducts bedside lactation rounds as assigned; Consults with mothers having breastfeeding problems; Maintains logs to monitor patient contacts; Refers patients to follow up care, as needed, after discharge. -
Creates an environment that promotes learning for staff and patients; Plans, teaches and conducts in-service education for maternity nursing staff. -
Facilitates the initiation/continuation of BF through one-on-one evaluation/assistance to mother and baby. -
Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills. -
