The City of Fort Worth is recruiting to hire a Legal Secretary for the Law Department.
The selected candidate will receive general supervision from higher level attorney staff. To perform a variety of responsible legal secretarial duties in support of the City Attorneys office including transcribing and typing a variety of legal documents such as agreements, correspondence, legal papers, notices, contracts, briefs, complaints, summonses and pleadings; to create and maintain complex filing systems for litigation cases; and to perform a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility.
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time; adequate speech, hearing, and eyesight; must be able to operate assigned equipment.
Skills / Requirements
High School Diploma, GED Certificate or higher educational attainment, supplemented with outside training in the legal secretarial field PLUS two (2) years of increasingly responsible legal secretarial experience required.
Must pass computerized clerical exam with score of 70; must type at least 60 wpm.
Microsoft Word and Excel skills required.
Extensive telephone customer service skills required.
Excellent organizational skills are plus.
Two (2) years of state and federal civil court litigation experience highly preferred.
Texas litigation experience and employment law experience also highly preferred.
