The College of William & Mary is in search of a Learning Management Systems (LMS) Application Specialist. This key new member of the Academic Information Services team must possess the technical, organizational, and collaboration skills to centralize and coordinate campus-wide support of the Collegeâ??s LMS (currently Blackboard) for courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Mason School of Business and the School of Education. Position responsibilities will include working with William and Maryâ??s existing LMS infrastructure, developing testing and data collection procedures, answering Level II support requests, and assisting with evaluating other learning management tools which might be used to supplement or replace Blackboard. Strong relationships are required with faculty, Server Administrators, EIS Applications Engineers/Programmers, and Senior Academic Technology Specialists to ensure that faculty and students can effectively use LMS tools to enhance learning. â?¨The LMS is a mission-critical part of the learning architecture at William and Mary, with over 90% of courses and faculty using the application in any semester for core functions within their classes (such as administering assessments) where system failures or inefficient processes could have a major negative impact on teaching and learning.

Minimum Qualifications
-Knowledge of enterprise software application administration in an LMS or other academically relevant software environment. -Knowledge and use of student information systems, particularly as it relates to course and student records. -Knowledge of relational database systems, database query/reporting tools, and web application delivery methods. -Ability to use implement, and support new technologies and platforms for both large and small scale changes in the LMS environment. -Ability to assist faculty and students to effectively use the LMS to incorporate multimedia in the teaching and learning process. -Familiarity with use of multimedia formats such as Shockwave, Flash, and other formats. -Ability to explain relevant technologies to non-technical personnel. -Excellent organizational, consulting, and communication skills, with evidence of on-going professional development. Commitment to excellence in a team-oriented environment. -Exceptional customer service skills and effective presentation skills with a knowledge of technical support best practices in an academic environment. -Ability to work independently and as a team member and leader.â?¨ -Excellent written and oral communication skillsâ?¨. -Bachelorâ??s degree in computer science, educational technology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. -Intermediate experience working in various operating system and software environments that may include, Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, Unix, or similar platforms and architectures. -Experience working with vendor-supplied software applications in an academic environment. -Experience with small or large software implementation projects from analysis to operational status.

Preferred Qualifications
-Familiarity with Ellucian Banner -Knowledge of Blackboardâ??s administrative control panel and ability to use it to configure all core functionality of the collegeâ??s LMS, including role definition and user management, course management, security and authentication, and institutional and branding settings.â?¨ -Ability to manage all specialized tools in Blackboard, including calendars and announcements, Language Packs, SafeAssign and plugins and building blocks.â?¨ -Ability to support and expand the use of advanced features of Blackboardâ??s LMS including detailed knowledge of discussion board management, group tools management, Grade Center and other tools. Prefer previous experience in LMS administration in a distributed computing environment, using Blackboard, Moodle, Angel, and/or Sakai. -Experience with Oracle preferredâ?¨ -Experience with Unix preferredâ?¨ -Experience with programming languages such as Javascript, XML, and PHP preferredâ?¨ -Familiarity with IMS and SCORM compliance preferredâ?¨ -Experience with podcasting and streaming video technologies preferredâ?¨
