Must be able to troubleshoot issues and follow directions. Must have understanding of structured SDLC environment. Critical, but somewhat less critical than the technical skills. Ideally, they would have experience with reviewing requirements, writing structured test cases in a test tracking system, writing defects, etc. If this understanding is a little weak, we might be willing to train if necessary, but would rather have someone with the experience already.
Must be able to manipulate hand-held device for 8+ hours per day. For e.g. Smartphone, iPhones, tablets, etc.
Some OT may be required. Shift work is often required. Some late night testing required about 5 times a year. For e.g. 8p-12midnight (may vary.)
This is a test role, but because the engineering components of the skill set are so important, we are willing to consider people with little formal testing experience, assuming they have the technical know-how. We can train an engineer to be a tester more easily than we can train a tester on the engineering aspects.
For SS7 - MAP, ISUP SCCP and MTP They don't need to understand the nodes, but need to understand signaling. They must understand the ping-pong flows and what results mean, so that they recognize an error when they see it. We do network testing, not node testing, so we need someone with a holistic view of the system, not just someone who can monitor one box and look at the logs coming from that one box. SS7 as a whole is secondary to VoIP experience.
As far as trying to get someone with SS7, SIP and IP Packet Tracing, if they have two of the three, we could probably use them, and round out the team with someone who fills the missing part of that equation up.
