The Lab Assistant participates in and assists in supporting the laboratory aspects of human clinical trials under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor. Perform laboratory procedures while ensuring the integrity of the studies and the safety and well-being of human subjects. Perform duties in accordance with company’s values, policies, and procedures.

  • Participate in day-to-day clinical and laboratory activities and procedures, ensuring efficient workflow, appropriate collection and management of research subjects’ laboratory samples, and adequate care and treatment of research subjects.
  • Serve as point of entry for all specimens coming to the laboratory. This entails processing all specimens, completing requisition forms, shipment of samples and logging in samples on laboratory tracking log according to procedures provided in study protocols and manuals.
    • Review of client protocols and case report forms for laboratory and clinical logistical issues.
    • Provide lab support including kit preparation, sample labeling, specimen preparation and specimen shipping.
    • Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining clean lab areas and equipment.
    • Assists with receipt and inspection of protocol specific supplies, and ordering and stocking of general materials and equipment.
    • Maintains quality control of specimen samples.
    • Maintains a safe environment in the laboratory.
      • Assist nursing staff by performing phlebotomy, and collecting blood and urine samples, monitoring and recording vital signs and/or performing other specialized procedures (EKGs, Clamps), as appropriate to the specific needs of the study and individual subjects, and is appropriate to level of individual training.
      • Assist with ordering, stocking and inventory of laboratory, clinical, and office supplies and consumables.
      • Assist with clinical laboratory sample inventory, appropriate storage and shipping requirements.
      • Help to resolve laboratory requisition or sample queries from reference labs.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus three months health service industry experience, and/or training in a laboratory, research, or clinical environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to perform basic clinical procedures correctly including vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy and sample processing.
  • Demonstrates initiative and problem solving skills. Able to respect subject confidentiality and blinding procedures.
  • Understands medical terminology and calculations.
  • Demonstrates a strong attention to detail with superior organizational skills with ability to deal with large volumes of data and/or samples while maintaining efficiency and accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Under general supervision, exercises judgment in accordance with well-defined policies, procedures, and techniques.
  • Able to self-monitor progress and complete assigned tasks independently.

  • Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) and IATA certification and/or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
