Prepares material for open instructional laboratories according to established procedures.
Interacts with individuals outside of the College in laboratory preparations.
1. Prepares laboratories daily. Assures cleanliness and follows all national and state
requirements pertaining to the specific discipline.
2. Acts as the department’s representative when working with individuals outside State
College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota in the coordination of laboratories run by institutions renting State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota laboratory space.

High school diploma or general education degree ( GED ) and two years related experience, or one year of college in related field, or one year certificate from college or technical school and one or more years experience.
Generalized Skill set for Lab Assistants, Natural Science to include:
-Biology, Chemistry, Math background desirable
-Ability to multitask is essential
-Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
-Ability to delegate work to and supervise Student Assistants
-Keen time management skills are required
-Ability to maintain clear, concise records for lab set up, inventory and purchasing
-Ability to work in a team environment as well as ability to work independently
-Ability to maintain a clean, well-organized and safe lab environment
-Willingness to work a flexible, varying weekly schedule
-Computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook

Position #1 Lab Assistant, Focused in Biology
-Experience with preparation of bacterial cultures, aseptic technique, preparation of media and agar plates, preparation of solutions, microscopy experience, micro-pipetting, spectrophotometry, gel electrophoresis, familiarity with anatomy, bacteria, protists, fungi, plants and animals.
Position #2 Lab Assistant, Focused in Biotechnology
-Knowledge of proteins, plasmid vectors, DNA technology, cell cultures, micro-pipetting, media preparation, dilution, aseptic technique, bacterial transformation and growth, DNA extraction, spectrophotometry, microscopy, preparation of solutions, ability to compose and maintain lab notebook
