The Lab Instructor works as part of a team that facilitate 90 minute, hands-on design challenge and wet lab experiences for visiting field trip classes in grades 2-9. Additional work opportunities include facilitating weekend birthday party labs, Girl Scout badge programs and The Tech Challenge workshops. This is a position that is scheduled based on the booked labs and is expected to go through early June 2013 based on the school year.
Attend trainings and lab set-up.
Attend class session debriefs and occasional staff meetings as required.
Teach labs as scheduled.
Understand and implement the museum's learning principles and philosophy.
Prepare and organize lab materials and hand-outs.
Clean up and reset materials and set up after each lab.
Help to establish and maintain overall organization and cleanliness of labs.
Change out lab materials according to schedule.
Restock supplies as needed.
Provide feedback on continuous improvement of the labs.
Understand customer service expectations, training material, and general policies.
Follow The Tech Museum's safety guidelines.
Passionate about science and technology.
Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate/technical/scientific ideas to diverse group of students.
Teaching experience or experience working with children in a traditional or non-traditional educational setting.
Broad based knowledge of and demonstrated interest in science, math and technology (Wet lab instructors require a solid understanding of high school biology and chemistry).
Experience with hands-on cooperative learning instruction, highly desired.
Excellent organizational skills including time management.
Adaptability in delivering content to different ages and levels, as well as the ability to pace lab instruction and make on-the-spot decisions as changes arise.
Can offer and take contructive criticism; is happy to seek advice of mentors.
Pursuing or completed BA/BS in education, science, engineering or equivalent experience.
$25.00 per hour
