Position Summary:
The Lab Technician will consult and work with the faculty and graduate/undergraduate students to ensure the successful design and fabrication of research and education components, including specifying equipment and instrumentation and assisting with ordering parts and supplies. This responsibility includes participation in the design phase of the components; interaction with vendors; timely fabrication; and oversight during implementation and evaluation of the components. Ensure effective operation of research and teaching laboratories, including fabrication and ordering of required equipment and supplies, and providing recommendations to the laboratory managers and technicians. Provide support to student organizations that use the laboratories. In conjunction with the Director of Facilities, Safety & Sustainability, develop and deliver programs to train students in safe use of machine shop and laboratory equipment and oversee safe student use of equipment. Maintain machine shops associated with these operations.
Qualifications:
Technical or vocational training as a machinist or Associates Degree in mechanical design/technology or a closely related field. Minimum of 5 years of related experience. Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff, students and outside vendors.
