JOB TITLE: Lab Technologist FLSA: nonexempt

REPORTS TO: Quality Assurance Manager

DEPARTMENT: Quality Assurance

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for overseeing the quality of raw ingredients and finished products throughout all stages of production and conducting audits and inspections to assist in product development and process improvements.


1. Audits manufacturing processes to ensure formula compliance.

2. Performs physical and chemical analyses on raw and finished goods.

3. Monitors trends and quality compliance of production procedures.

4. Analyzes quality assurance data, creates reports, and communicates the information to management.

5. Initiates impoundments.

6. Provides expertise, research, documentation, and technical support while supporting new product testing and product reformulations.

7. Performs various process, ingredient, and shelf life studies.

8. Audits package integrity, coding, and finished product weights.

9. Identifies and corrects noncompliance and deviations to the Kroger quality principles and ingredient/product specifications.


1. Maintains, cleans, and calibrates laboratory equipment.

2. Performs other various job functions as may be assigned.


Knowledge - Requires knowledge of laboratory environments including equipment, chemicals, and supplies; speak and write in a clear and understandable manner for internal/external relations; understand complex verbal or written instructions; thorough understanding of mathematics including algebra and statistics; knowledge ordinarily acquired through a Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related field plus two years related experience.
