Johns Manville is currently seeking a Labor Relations Manager to join our corporate team. This person would ideally be located close to one of our plants in
or Waterville Ohio or Rockdale IL. (Chicago area).
The ideal candidate would be responsible for developing and implementing labor relations strategies which create and maintain an environment that delivers desired business results, increases employee engagement, and creates competitive advantage for JM.
This position provides broad guidance and advises senior business leaders on all matters related to labor relations across all businesses in North America This position reports to our JM Labor Relations Leader and works directly with Business Unit Leaders, Plant Leadership, Human Resources Leaders, and Union Leadership.
Prepares for and negotiates contract agreements between the company and the unions that represent its employees across multiple sits and businesses.
Works with business leadership and local plant management to insure the needs of the business and plant are protected or won at the negotiating table.
Establish positive working relationships with union leadership to implement cost and productivity improvements.
Manages and interprets the collective bargaining agreements in collaboration with Labor Leader, Regional HR and facility leadership.
Leads negotiation teams.
Manages and participates in Arbitrations.
Advises management on contract interpretation and grievance responses.
Coordinates company responses to labor charges.
Coaches and trains plant management, HR leaders and front line leaders on managing in a union environment.
Works with Labor Leader and legal to create company response teams to union organizing efforts.
Works with local management in union avoidance, including recommending and administering front line leader training aimed at insuring positive employee relations.

Bachelors degree in human resources, labor relations or related field.
Masters degree preferred.
Must have 8+ years of human resources management experience in manufacturing settings.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience leading labor contract negotiations.
Must have expert knowledge of contract language, negotiating techniques, contract analysis, proposal generation, and costing.
Must have a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
Must have a solid knowledge of union avoidance tools, employment laws, and human resources strategies.
Must have demonstrated a high level of discretion and independent judgment, along with problem solving, and decision making.
Solid presentation skills a must.
