Laboratory Analyst 1 - Port Washington, NY

The Microbiology Laboratory Analyst I will provide routine microbiological testing in support of company objectives. Daily microbiological tests will include bacterial or bacteriophage titers, liquid bacterial or bacteriophage challenges of filter material, sterility tests, culture media qualifications tests, and related supporting work. The Microbiology Laboratory Analyst I relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

Perform basic microbiological testing (Bacteriophage and bacterial) after adequate training, as requested in the Job Order, and ensuring all relevant SOPs are adhered to.

Apply a basic level of critical thinking while performing aforementioned testing to meet customer expectations and minimize occurrence of laboratory investigations. Expectation is that initially testing deviations will be reported immediately to Laboratory Management for insight into appropriate resolution, and the Microbiology Laboratory Analyst I will apply the resolution under supervision.

Document laboratory testing and results in accordance with relevant SOPs.

May include media preparation to include media validation (e.g. sterility testing and growth promotion testing).

Application of aseptic techniques.

Basic environmental monitoring during testing (e.g. use of settle plates when plating.

Purified water system sampling and microbiological testing.

Basic analysis via microscope (e.g. Gram stains, direct cell counts) after training, with supervision for non-standard testing requests.

Read and interpret documents such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Communicate effectively with Pall Scientists to regarding basic microbiological procedures.

Participate in review of microbiology laboratory procedures.

Basic analysis of routine test data and comparison to pre-set acceptance criteria, immediate reporting of non-conforming results to Microbiology Laboratory Management.

Participate in continuous improvement, as appropriate. All staff are expected to communicate to the Laboratory Management any ideas for improvements in the laboratory (including, but not limited to ways to streamline testing procedures, collection of metrics, laboratory housekeeping, etc.).

Attention to detail and Quality.

Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask and complete tasks within assigned deadlines.

Work neatly, safely, and comply with company policy and procedures at all times.

Adapt well to change.

Promote all aspects of the corporate culture and demonstrate a strong team work ethic.

Perform other duties as assigned.

BS in Microbiology or Biology and up to 1 year experience working in a laboratory environment.

Demonstrated experience of aseptic techniques and sterility.

Experience applying basic theoretical microbiological techniques and concepts to real-time laboratory testing.

Proven mathematical skills in calculating concentrations and dilutions.

Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel.

Experience in cGMP environment preferred.
