Produce molecular marker data to support the RiceTec breeding and biotechnology programs.
Perform DNA extractions, PCR, and electrophoresis for project samples submitted to the marker lab.
Utilize Standard Operating Procedures for all routine laboratory operations.
Document the flow of samples for each step in data generation from sample submission through data delivery.
Perform preliminary analysis on data generated by DNA analyzers and monitor quality assurance parameters per SOP.
Deliver output files and sample documentation to the Molecular Analysis group.
Perform routine preventive maintenance per SOP on laboratory instrumentation to ensure optimum performance. Document in appropriate log sheets regularly.
Follow all safety rules and guidelines prescribed for operating in the Marker Lab.
All lab work must comply with Companys ISO 9000 initiative.
Routinely communicate and coordinate laboratory operations (extractions, PCR, electrophoresis, and analysis) and schedules with other members of the Marker Lab.
Provide Marker Lab Manager with information regarding project status, instrumentation failures, quality assurance data, and other relevant updates as requested.
Organize, plan, and prioritize daily work assignments.
Complete projects/assignments in a timely manner with supervision.
Quality and quantity of work meets departmental standards
Ability to work on limited number of projects concurrently.
Bachelors degree in one of the life sciences.
Basic knowledge of laboratory and/or field techniques and equipment at the entry level progressing to an in-depth knowledge at the senior level.
Basic understanding and application of statistical methods.
Ability to coordinate activities of entry level, part-time or temporary staff.
Ability to take initiative.
Knowledge of pertinent literature.
Work is performed following rules and guidelines set forth in manuals such as those for research protocols and equipment and safety manuals.
Must work precisely with attention to detail, while generally performing a number of repetitive tasks.
Communication is with others in the same project/research group area, with staff at large and with vendors to help achieve effective and cooperative project progress. May also attend external meetings and internal seminars to discuss and exchange scientific ideas.
Varying working conditions which require close concentration, visual attention and need for manual or physical dexterity. Protective devices required in some aspects of work. May work with chemicals and substances requiring safety precautions and with equipment requiring constant atten tion.
