Job Overview
Laboratory Assistant III will support the ongoing research projects in the laboratory of Dr. Jason Pomerantz, M.D., in the Department of Surgery. The position will involve general laboratory support including administrative work and ordering, receiving and distributing laboratory supplies, molecular biology assays, and the breeding, maintenance and genotyping of transgenic mouse and fish lines. S/he will perform duties which include preparation of media for research activities; participation in the construction, assembly, testing and/or operation of laboratory equipment; preparation of tissues for microscopic examination.

The ongoing projects in the lab are focused on genetic and cell biological approaches to study tissue regeneration and stem cell biology. The laboratory is located at the UCSF Parnassus Heights campus, in the center of San Francisco. UCSF offers an outstanding regenerative medicine community and a supportive working environment.

Required Qualifications
• BA/BS or equivalent in cell/molecular biology or related sciences within the past two years or the equivalent combination of education and experience
• Willingness to care for, work with and handle rodents and fish
• Ability to organize data and keep detailed records
• Proficiency with software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, MS Outlook and database programs
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Native or fluent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Demonstrate excellent attendance and reliability
• Previous experience with basic laboratory skills, such as solution making and aliquoting and experience with mouse handling
Physical Demands: requires sitting; standing; walking; squatting; bending; waist twisting; climbing stairs; reaching up to shoulder height; reaching above shoulder level; carrying/lifting 30 pounds; pushing/pulling up to 30 pounds; gripping/grasping, fine/gross finger manipulation; repetitive movements of upper and lower extremities; dust, fumes or gases; chemical agents; tuberculosis, blood, body fluids or tissue, latex, verbal communication; differentiate color; use protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience performing molecular biology assays including gateway cloning and golden gate cloning
• Previous experience with basic laboratory skills, such as solution making and aliquoting and experience with mouse handling
