Job Summary

Following procedures in the Quality Manual, tests, calibrates and repairs measuring and indicating instruments used in the laboratories for conformance to established government, commercial and organization standards. Adjusts instruments to calibration standards and assembles and builds equipment as needed. Checks, verifies and accepts the calibration certificates from the external Certification Center.

Job Responsibility

Responsible for the calibration and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and apparatus and conducts the measurement uncertainty for equipment. Measures accuracy of instruments used to record voltage, heat and magnetic resistance, oscilloscopes, radiation measuring devices, etc. As necessary, adapts procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to meet more complex requirements.

Develops internal procedures for laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance.

Manages the scheduling of the calibrations and maintenance and updates applicable systems based on company procedures.

Issues calibration certificates based on internal procedures.

Defines the engineering units, ranges, and/or acceptance criteria of instruments to be externally calibrated based on standard requirements or accreditations.

Working with laboratory management, assures the calibration quality of test results and verifies competencies of employees using the various instruments and apparatus.

Understands and/or conducts measurement of uncertainty for equipment calibration.

May help set up equipment for tests.

Performs other duties as directed.

Job Requirements

Some University Education (Equivalent to an Associate’s Degree) in a related discipline plus generally four years related experience.

Has a basic understanding of the principles of Lean Sigma.

Ability to compose routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to present standard information and respond to questions from individuals or small groups of internal or external clients.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as operations, maintenance and procedure manuals.

Ability to understand and follow instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to resolve problems involving several variables in standardized situations where specific decision-making guidelines exist.

Working knowledge of all field or laboratory equipment and standards or procedures in assigned technical areas.

Demonstrated knowledge of the most common laboratory test equipment and the principles of measurement uncertainty.

Lean Sigma DMAIC training or Gage R&R experience or equivalent preferred.
