Reports to Manager, Comparative Medicine Unit ( CMU ). Responsibilities include animal husbandry, performing routine veterinary laboratory tests, performing veterinary medical treatment on a variety of animal species, and record-keeping under supervision
The selected candidate will maintain a basic program of animal care and facility sanitation.
•Performs animal care duties, i.e., feeding, watering, cage/pen changing, monitoring health status of animals, and reporting changes to Manager and/or Director.
•Performs record-keeping, such as U.S.D.A. sheets, temperature/humidity and light timer sheets, animal treatment sheets, and breeding records.
•Monitors supplies used in animal duties and notifies Manager when supplies are low.
•Assists investigators in the conduct of certain research projects.
•High School diploma or equivalent
•One or more years of animal care experience (other than pets)
•Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others
•Must pass physical with 50-lb lift test
•Rotating weekend/holidays hours required
•Enjoying working with animals
•Acquire AALAS technician certification at the ALAT level, at a minimum, within 24 months from date of hire.
Physical demands include ability to see,lift 50 lbs, pull and push heavy equipment, stand, bend and walk.
