Laboratory Technician performs routine and responsible laboratory testing within the health center laboratory while providing excellent customer service to patients and staff.
DUTIES AND RE SPONSIBILITIES:
Performs routine laboratory test procedures and reports accurate test results
Adheres to quality assurance and quality control procedures in performing all testing
Correlates clinical information and/or previous lab results and reports discrepancies
Collects and directs the collection of specimens with rigid attention to proper patient identification
Adheres to clinical and laboratory safety and infection control policies for all clinical testing
Enters patient information into the electronic health record (EHR) system completely and accurately
Maintains and operates lab equipment; ensures appropriate lab supplies are always on hand
Promote patient satisfaction and provide excellent customer service
Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules
Attends staff meetings
Participates in on-going required training
Trains new employees or students from affiliate programs
Performs other duties, as assigned
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES:
Successfully completed an academic course (or combined courses) of study that includes study in fundamental laboratory technology, medical office duties and patient contact related tasks, along with documented satisfactory clinical experience in a physician’s office ---OR--- Completed a minimum of one year (2,080 hours) of satisfactory work experience within the past three years that includes performance of duties related to a clinical laboratory, medical office tasks and direct patient contact. Must be BCLS certified or attains certification within 45 days of employment.
Familiarity with medical terminology
Strong computer skills; experience with an EHR system, NextGen preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
High school diploma or equivalent
Bilingual English/Spanish desired
