Position Description
Will support the land surface temperature (LST) production and improvement from satellite sensors onboard the JPSS and GOES-R satellites, in particular to summarize and apply lessons learned from the LST development and improvement support for the current polar-orbiting and geostationary satellites. This includes the use of simulation and proxy data for future satellite and the current available satellite data.

The primary task of this work assignment is to support the GOES-R and JPSS LST production. This may include participation in the prelaunch and post-launch algorithm development, evaluation, improvement, and applications support. For the future satellite mission support the development of these capabilities will use current GOES and POES/EOS proxy data as inputs to run the algorithms until actual instrument observations become available. The development will also use existing satellite sensors for the LST development

Required Skills
3 to 5 years of graduate/post-graduate experience land surface temperature production and improvement from satellite sensors. Experience with radiative transfer (visible and infrared) theory, process, and software. Experience with algorithm development for Satellite missions and with GOES and POES satellite data processing, both Sensor Data Record (SDR) and Environmental Data Record (EDR). Skillful programming ability in FORTRAN, C/C++, IDL, and Perl in a UNIX/LINUX environment.

Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.

MS in atmospheric science or engineering, related discipline, or equivalent.
