Independently performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to landfill gas, groundwater, leachate monitoring, and system repair and maintenance at Deschutes County landfills and transfer sites. Position performs inspections on weekly, monthly and quarterly basis; records readings; transcribes and enters information into a computer database system; oversees, and documents regulatory, permit, and safety inspections at various sites. Assists in checking grade of fill operations and development of fill and excavation plans. Operates and maintains GPS surveying and CAD systems and records. Performs other duties as required.
$3,584.93 - $4,575.41 per month for a 173.33 hour work month. Salary normally starts at the first step. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This is a union represented position. Position is available immediately.
Incumbents have typically completed an Associates degree, or equivalent, specializing in civil or environmental engineering, and have one year of experience performing environmental monitoring and testing.
Possession of or ability to obtain certification by the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) within twelve months of hire date.
Must have knowledge to use highly specialized monitoring equipment and or field engineering instruments, GPS-based field surveying equipment, and CAD software. Must possess the skill to accurately record data and maintain exact, detailed records involving a moderate degree of complexity. Complexity is due to the high degree of accuracy required in completing and documenting inspections, taking measurements utilizing highly technical equipment, understanding landfill gas, groundwater and leachate monitoring systems, and familiarity with GPS surveying techniques and mathematics. Must possess creativity, and have strong mechanical and advanced math skills. Must possess the skills to operate a personal computer, and keyboard/input accurate data into a database system.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to perform problem analysis, use basic computer programming, read blueprints, and to plan, coordinate and prioritize work assignments.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon an acceptable and verifiable driver's license and driving history.
Physical Abilities . Position frequently requires standing, walking, stooping, fingering, speaking, reaching, sitting and bending. Must be able to push, pull, or lift up to 20 pounds and carry up to 30 pounds.
Must possess the ability to operate a motor vehicle and work outdoors in inclement weather.
Final candidate selected for position will be required to pass a drug screening and a thorough employment and criminal history investigation.
