An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.

This is a temporary, part-time position. Hours will vary. Saturdays are required.

This position will close at 10:00 PM on the closing date listed.

Provides directions to members of the public using County Landfill facilities, handle monetary transactions and provide professional customer service.

Job Specific Details:
The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. The organization retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time.
  • Unlock and open Landfill premises to the public.
  • Greet members of the public using the County's landfill facilities and inspect contents of refuse to be dumped at the landfill.
  • Collect and process related fees and charges and maintain appropriate records and logs.
  • Direct members of the public to various dumping areas within the landfill depending upon the contents of their refuse.
  • Watch for and notify appropriate landfill personnel of potential hazards including fires or toxic and flammable chemicals.
  • Ensure that refuse dumped at the landfill complies with County rules and policies related to the landfill operations.
  • Secure and lock landfill facilities at closing time.
  • Perform other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Safe work practices.
  • Operation of standard office equipment including fax machines, copiers, and computers.
  • Scope and application of laws and regulations pertaining to Landfill programs.
  • Routine software and business applications, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Perform duties independently without close supervision.
  • Provide professional customer service to clients and public.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Learn and apply pertinent landfill rules and regulations.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
  • One year of experience in a directly related field or in the performance of similar duties and responsibilities.
  • High School diploma or GED required supplemented by some on the job training in landfill and cashier operation.
Physical Requirements:

  • Walk on scales, climb on semi to measure load
  • Climb over trailer hitch
  • Climb on scales
  • Occasionally direct traffic
LIGHT - Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those of Sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Occasionally ¼ to 2 ½ hours/day
  • CLIMBING - Ascending or descending using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • STOOPING - Bending body downward and forward. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • CROUCHING - Bending body downward and for-ward by bending legs and spine.
Frequently 2 ½ to 5 ½ hours/day
  • BALANCING - Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces; or maintaining body equilibrium when performing feats of agility.
Constantly 5 ½ to 8 hours/day
  • REACHING - Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • HANDLING - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand.
  • FINGERING - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

VISION: Required
  • NEAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Use this factor when special and minute accuracy is demanded.
  • FAR ACUITY - Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Use this factor when visual efficiency in terms of far acuity is required in day and night/dark conditions.
  • DEPTH PERCEPTION - Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
  • ACCOMMODATION - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. Use this factor when requiring near point work at varying distances.
Occasionally ¼ to 2 ½ hours/day
  • NOISE - Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds or a pitch or level sufficient to cause mark ed distraction or possible hearing loss.
  • VIBRATION - Exposure to a shaking object or surface. This factor is rated important when vibration causes a strain on the body or extremities.
  • PLATFORM FOR MOVEMENT - Work requires walking on uneven surfaces, climbing or working on ladders, scaffolds or heavy equipment.
Frequently 2 ½ to 5 ½ hours/day
  • ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS - Exposure to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes or, the skin.
Constantly 5 ½ to 8 hours/day
  • EXPOSURE TO WEATHER - Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather.
  • Office equipment such as computer, projector, copier, fax etc.
  • Basic hand tools (e.g., screwdriver, tape measure, hammer, shovel)
