Directs and supervises the day-to-day operations of an assigned shift for a municipal solid waste landfill for DeKalb County , including environmental compliance.


Plans, organizes, and directs the activities and operation of an assigned shift for the County municipal solid waste landfill and ensures environmental regulatory compliance.

Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.

Directs the cut and fill sequence and checks elevation daily.

Supervises the training, use and operation of equipment and safety procedures, including preventative maintenance program.

Assists with budget and provides input to plans for future disposal requirements.

Monitors leachate system and erosion control.

Balances daily cash receipts.

Meets Environmental Protection Division regulations by coordinating air and water monitoring, environmental data review and reporting, and maintaining records of operation and inspection.

Compiles and interprets reports and data, maintains detailed records and activity logs, and distributes information as needed.

Reviews results of regulatory inspections and administrative warnings and provides appropriate and timely response.

Attends meetings on behalf of the County and keeps abreast of current environmental regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in Business Management, Environmental Science, or related field; seven years of experience in municipal solid waste landfill facility supervision, public works construction, maintenance operations, or a related field, which must have included one year of supervisory experience or a High School diploma or GED and eleven years experience in municipal solid waste landfill operations including two years of supervisory experience. Must obtain a Landfill Operator’s Certificate as required by the State of Georgia within six months of appointment to this classification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. A combination of training and experience above the minimum requirements will be considered.
