Dependable and reliable. Have the ability to work both individually and with group. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. Maintain landscape at the University of Utah. This includes, mowing, weed control, pruning, trash clean-up, spring and fall leaf clean-up, winter maintenance and snow removal.
Controls weeds by using chemicals in a backpack sprayer and hand pulling. Operates various types of grounds equipment such as commercial mowers, riding and walk-behind, 48” self-propelled, walk-behind and stick edger, weed whip, hand blower, leaf sweeper and vacuum, and 25-30 HSP tractor. Performs various duties such as fertilizing, seeding, aerating, mowing, applying mulch, etc. Has the ability to identify trees and shrubs and maintain their health, care and appearance according to growth habit. Functions as a trainer by training new employees and carrying out other assignments as instructed. May work with and act as a crew leader over seasonal employees. Ensures that seasonal tasks are completed expediently and efficiently in order to provide safety and preserve the beauty of campus.

Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program as a Master Gardener, or equivalency; nine months of progressively more responsible grounds experience; a knowledge of the common names of trees, shrubs, monocots, and dicots; and a valid Utah State Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator License required. Demonstrated oral and written communications skills; analytical and trouble shooting skills; and customer services skills also required.
Responsible and self-motivated individual who is willing to take on physically demanding tasks. Applicant should have good customer service skills, especially if dealing with others, and have a valid driver’s license. Landscaping experience required.
This position may require the successful completion of a criminal background check and/or drug screen.
