Launch Technician, Instrumentation and Range Operations
Installs and terminates wiring to pad instrumentation and data acquisition systems
Installs connectors, connector pins, terminals and lugs
Perform continuity checks, locates and corrects wiring errors using measuring instruments such as ohmmeters and voltage calibrators
Perform work in support of fellow electronic technicians and engineering employees using shop assembly equipment and hand tools
Collaborates with design engineers to troubleshoot failures and issues derived from test data
High School Diploma or equivalent GED
NASA harness certifications
Previous experience working on SpaceX flight hardware or range instrumentation systems.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Ability to work effectively in a team environment under stress
Applicants should have demonstrated a strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail.
Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment
Communication skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between other employees and customers
Aptitude for learning basic direct current electrical theory
Ability to work with design engineers to develop and document set up and procedures
A strong passion for space exploration
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Typically a minimum of 50 hours per week; overtime is frequently required for particular tasks based on operational need
While the schedule normally calls for work in the daytime, occasional second shift and overnight shifts may be required during launch vehicle on-pad operations for major tests and launch
Ninety percent of the work is at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the Kennedy Space Center; ten percent travel to the manufacturing center and other launch or tests sites
The ability to work in a high-stress environment
Work is often performed outdoors throughout the year; typically exposed to winter winds and temperatures, and summer heat and humidity.
General physical fitness is required for some work areas, flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
The ability to lift 35 pounds
The ability to climb 150 feet
