Provides management of the on-going support of the centrally running Unix infrastructure, which supports email, web, administrative, and enterprise applications, including processes, scripting, hardware and software. Systems include RedHat Linux, AIX, and Solaris.

Key Relationships:
Maintains open and collaborative relationships with client management for ongoing project and maintenance work. Maintains good relationships with peer technical groups and other support groups. Work with all levels of vendor organizations on problem management and resolution. May provide basic vendor, content, and product pricing research in support of vendor negotiation process. Provides project management and/or technical consulting on complex projects.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership and management for the installation, implementation, and customization: May install complex soft/hardware infrastructure. May plan, assign and direct the implementation of highly complex upgrades and installations. Performs complex implementations and/or customizations.
  • Maintenance & Support: May install complex impact upgrades, patches and fixes to high impact environments or customers with high visibility. Monitors automated reports and/or responds to alerts for multiple hard/software applications issues. May assemble trend reports and monitors for user utilization levels. Assesses and recommends maintenance and/or hard/software solutions to maximize user effectiveness. On 24-hour call for after-hours and weekend work.
  • Problem Resolution: Conducts/coordinates complex troubleshooting activities spanning multiple systems and technologies. Performs diagnosis and resolution of complex hardware/software issues. Designs processes to eliminate complex and systemic problems. Uses vendor support and other CUIT staff to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems. Researches complex problems and their resolution. Assists junior staff with diagnosis and resolution. May take calls from CUIT management, Client Support Services, end users, developers, operations staff, or automated tools regarding availability, performance or functionality problems (7x24).
  • Design & Development, Architecture: Does assigned research. Contributes to the defining of hardware/software configurations to address University technology needs. Does assigned design and development of complex systems. These activities may be time sensitive and impact multiple users/groups across the University and across many parts of the infrastructure. Works with vendors directly on customization and implementation work.
  • Consulting: Identifies and documents infrastructure requirements. May act as an individual contributor/consultant on CU-wide infrastructure and integration issues both complex and multiplatform in nature. Consults to senior management and clients on project design and development including very complex problem resolution. Understands customer business needs and technical requirements. May be asked to provide clients with planning and implementation schedules for complex project work.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 6+ years related experience

  • Knowledge of a scripting language
  • Broad knowledge of information technologies
